On Tuesday May 7th, we discussed chapter 11 and 12 on sales promotion, point of purchase, sponsorship, product placement, and branded entertainment. One of the main topics in sales promotion was directory advertising and packaging. The definition of directory advertising can be rigorous investment because it helps committed and interested customers to locate the advertised products. Additionally, the definition of packaging can be considered in media support category since brands’ packages carry significance for customer’s choice. Point of purchase includes the brand logo and appearance and perception of the brand. One of the examples introduced in directory advertisement could be yellow pages directories. Essentially, the yellow page should include company’s logo, phone number, address, email and website. Moreover, some advertisement will appear on the side of the company showing some additional information.
Another example used for packaging is parmesan pencil sharpener, which our group present on Tuesday, “Take the Parmesan Pencil, sharpen it using the enclosed sharpener, and you have delicious, fresh Parmesan cheese on your meal. There couldn’t be an easier way to decorate your pasta & co. This example illustrates the thoughtful and useful designs merging with creativity.
